The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige has come out to say that some of the chieftains of APC in the zone did not attend the defection rally of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Ngige recently revealed that this was the case because they were not invited.

According to him, Umahi himself or the Caretaker Committee leadership could have invited these chieftains, but neither of them did, and life went on.

He added that the absence of APC stalwarts is no sign that there is any crack in APC because most of them would’ve not even attended after an invitation as these are busy times.

His words, “We didn’t attend because we were not invited, the answer is simple and shot.”

“It is a party thing, either the governor who is coming into our party will invite us or the Caretaker Committee leadership will invite us, neither of them invited us.”

“Is there any crack in a family that somebody maybe is eating food and didn’t invite you to dinner, it is a rally, it has nothing to do with the welcome reception by the Caretaker.

“Maybe they felt most of us were busy. I am busy with ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) problem as you know and labour issues, maybe that was why they didn’t invite me. Even if they invited me, exigencies of duties wouldn’t have allowed me to go. So, there is no crack.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is a political party in Nigeria, formed on 6 February 2013 in anticipation of the 2015 elections. APC candidate Muhammadu Buhari won the presidential election by almost 2.6 million votes. Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat on 31 March. legislation.

Formed in February 2013, the party is the result of a merger of Nigeria’s three biggest opposition parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the new PDP – a faction of then ruling People’s Democratic Party.

Prior to the formation of the APC and its victory in the 2015 elections, Muhammadu Buhari had previously contested (and subsequently lost) the Nigerian presidential elections of 2003 and 2007 as the presidential nominee of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the 2011 Nigerian presidential election as the presidential nominee of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
