The Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has come out to say that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) still has problems meeting the number of applications for Nigerian passports yearly.

Mr Rauf Aregbesola recently revealed this today during the virtual inauguration of the newly completed Office Complex of the NIS, Oyo State Command in Ibadan.

According to him, a lot still has to be done to satisfy the desires of Nigerians in terms of processing and prompt delivery of passports to applicants.

He added that the service is aware of the complaints of Nigerians on the issue, and those concerned are working tirelessly to meet up with their expectations.

His words, “NIS is not only for passport issuance, there is issue of Immigration management as well as border patrol.

β€œI want to commend the service for gradual adoption of technology in immigration management and border patrol and I want to emphasis that this is the way to go.”

Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola (born 25 May 1957) is the current Minister of the Federal Ministry of Interior of Nigeria. Before that he was the fourth civilian governor of Osun State. He is a native of Ilesa, Osun.

Aregbesola is a Muslim born into a family of both Muslims and Christians. He had his primary and secondary education in Ondo State. He later attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he studied Mechanical Engineering Technology and graduated in 1980.

There have been several dispute about Aregbesola’s professional qualification. The Polytechnic, Ibadan which he attended, awards National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, therefore a graduate of the school can only be an engineering technologist, according to COREN’s Engineering Cadres in Nigeria.

Aregbesola has remained within the same political group even as it went through several mergers, first changing to the AC, then the ACN and the APC, which would later become the federal ruling party in the country.
