A True African Man Won’t Encourage Violence Against Women – Seun Kuti

Popular celebrity, Seun Kuti has come out to say that African culture does not encourage violence against women and children.

He recently had his say via his social media page, and Nigerians have been reacting.

According to him, any man who lifts his hand to commit violence on women and kids is not a true black man, and he is only African by location.

Seen Kuti added that no part of the African culture supports violence against women, and any man that engages in it is no true African.

His words, “What is the African equivalent of these proverbs. Please tell me below, because una crase dey do press up! You aren’t African except in location! You don’t practice anything African except the small language u speak! Your holy land is Jerusalem and Mecca! Your most valuable possessions are you European thoughts and things! But as soon as u want to break your equally European wife and child, you claim african? Come close I want to ask u something, Are you mad?”

Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti (born 11 January 1983), commonly known as Seun Kuti, is a Nigerian musician, singer and the youngest son of famous afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Seun leads his father’s former band Egypt 80.

Africa raised American rapper, Jidenna featured Seun in his sophomore album titled, ’85 to Africa’. He is featured in Calle 13’s song “Todo se mueve” (Everything Moves), on their 2010 album Entren los que quieran.

In 2018, Black Times, by Seun Kuti was nominated for the Grammys, under the World Music Category. This makes Seun the second child of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti to be considered for this award, as his elder brother, Femi Kuti has been previously nominated in 2003, 2010, 2012 and 2013 without a win.

In June 2019, Kuti was featured in the Visual Collaborative electronic catalogue, under the Polaris series, he was interviewed on Pan-African awareness, his country and music.

Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti (born 16 June 1962), popularly known as Femi Kuti, is a Nigerian musician born in London and raised in Lagos. He is the eldest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and a grandchild of political campaigner, women’s rights activist and traditional aristocrat Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.
