It Was Important To Give Back To A Church That Has Always Embraced And Prayed For Me – Rema

Popular singer, Rema has donated a total of 105 million naira to a Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State.

He recently recounted how the church showed kindness to his family when he lost his father, and fans have been reacting.

According to him, he made the donation not to give himself any accolades or glory, and he just felt it was important to give back to a church that has always embraced and prayed for him.

Rema added that Christ Embassy gave his mother money to open a shop when his father passed.

His words, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced, and prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit.

Firstly, I want to give a pledge of N40m to the infrastructure of the church. I want to pledge N20m to Rhapsody of Realities, and being the fact that I came from the teen’s church, I also want to pledge N25m to the infrastructure of the teen’s church.

I’m pledging N20 million to widows in church today.

When I was eight years old when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us and we felt very alone I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, they opened a shop for my mum and that was how she managed to take care of us.”

Divine Ikubor (born 1 May 2000), known professionally as Rema, is a Nigerian singer and rapper. He rose to stardom after releasing the song “Dumebi”. In 2019, Rema got signed to Jonzing World record owned by D’Prince who has an affiliation with Mavin Records.

He is best known internationally for his 2022 hit single “Calm Down”, the remix with American singer Selena Gomez of which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and led the U.S. Afrobeats Songs for a record-setting 41 weeks.

Divine Ikubor was born into a Christian family in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He grew up singing and rapping while he was in secondary school. He attended his primary and secondary school education at Ighile Group of Schools, Edo State. His father and elder brother are deceased, and Rema was left to look after his mother.

In May 2021, Rema announced he would be calling his sound “Afrorave”, a subgenre of Afrobeats with influences of Arabian and Indian music which has led to him having one of the strongest fanbases in the country known as Ravers.
