I’ll Use My Influence To Tell Politicians What They’re Doing Wrong To Their Faces – Rema

Popular singer, Rema has come out to share how he plans to use his influence to give back to society.

He recently had his say during an interview on The Breakfast Club, and fans have been reacting.

According to him, his plan does not include sharing rice up and down, instead, he intends to use his influence to address politicians directly and tell what they are doing wrong.

Rema added that he also wants to create a platform that would consistently provide, educate, clothe and shelter.

His words, “With the influence we now have as artistes, I feel like we are now at the point where we can tell politicians, ‘Yo, you’re not doing your job!’ if I am seated with the governor, I will whisper in his ear, ‘i don’t think you’re doing this right. Sorry, it’s coming from a 24-year-old.

We can help convince them about policies, and the little we can do and invest the money we make, bringing it back home, giving kids life meaning.

A lot of times I tell my manager that it’s not about giving rice all the time. You don’t know if some kid has an allergy to rice, and then you leave and the kid has to go to the hospital to sort it out. There is a whole perspective of me giving back; I don’t like to do the basic ‘I gave you food,’ because what about tomorrow? What are they going to eat tomorrow?

I would rather create a platform that would consistently provide, a platform that would consistently educate and a platform that would consistently clothe or shelter. It could be 200 people or could be 500 people, but if it’s 1000 people, it’s quite consistent. It’s better than giving 1 million people food today and tomorrow, they’re hungry again. That’s my perspective on giving back, I’d use platforms and policies.”

Divine Ikubor (born 1 May 2000), known professionally as Rema, is a Nigerian singer and rapper. He rose to stardom after releasing the song “Dumebi”. In 2019, Rema got signed to Jonzing World record owned by D’Prince who has an affiliation with Mavin Records.

He is best known internationally for his 2022 hit single “Calm Down”, the remix with American singer Selena Gomez of which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and led the U.S. Afrobeats Songs for a record-setting 41 weeks.

Divine Ikubor was born into a Christian family in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He grew up singing and rapping while he was in secondary school. He attended his primary and secondary school education at Ighile Group of Schools, Edo State. His father and elder brother are deceased, and Rema was left to look after his mother.

In May 2021, Rema announced he would be calling his sound “Afrorave”, a subgenre of Afrobeats with influences of Arabian and Indian music which has led to him having one of the strongest fanbases in the country known as Ravers.
