Climate Change Has Led To 2 Million Deaths In 50 Years – UN

The United Nations has come out to say that extreme weather conditions have caused the deaths of two million people and $4.3 trillion in economic damage over the past half a century.

WMO chief, Petteri Taalas recently revealed this in a statement, and the world has been reacting.

According to him, 11,778 weather-related disasters have occurred from 1970 to 2021 and they have surged over that period, plus over 90 percent of deaths reported worldwide due to these disasters took place in developing countries.

He, however, added that improved early warning systems and coordinated disaster management has significantly reduced human casualties in recent times.

His words, “The most vulnerable communities, unfortunately, bear the brunt of weather, climate and water-related hazards.”

“Thanks to early warnings and disaster management, these catastrophic mortality rates are now thankfully history. Early warnings save lives.”

WOW.
