Close To $1bn Is Required To End Nigeria Humanitarian Crisis – UN

The United Nations bad come out to say that about $1 billion is needed to respond to the humanitarian crisis in northeast, where 5.1 million people are at risk of acute hunger.

The UN’s office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs recently revealed this in a statement, and Nigerians have been reacting.

According to the UN, as many as 5.1 million people are threatened by acute hunger during the upcoming lean season in the country– the worst outlook in four years, therefore the situation is very dire.

UN added that insecurity, violence, climate change, and the impact of Covid-19 keep increasing the vulnerability of close to nine million people, so something must be done fast.

It read, “As many as 5.1 million people are threatened by acute hunger during the upcoming lean season – the worst outlook in four years.”

“Longstanding insecurity and violence, compounded by climate change, and the impact of Covid-19 are increasing the vulnerability of close to nine million people.”

The UN’s humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon added, “There are no humanitarian responses to a humanitarian crisis -– we can save lives and create hope, but we must look at holistic approaches that address prevention, development.”
