Before becoming a music sensation and Glo ambassador, Mavin records artiste Reekado Banks was just another hopeful, looking to make his big break in the industry.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the 21-year old star revealed how he almost gave up on music before being signed by producer Don Jazzy.

According to Reekado, who recently graduated from the University of Lagos, he almost gave up on his dream because he was frustrated.

Two years ago, I wanted to quit music. I did not know I would be famous. At that point in my life, I was fed up because everything was not working right for me and it was very tiring. I felt like I was wasting my time doing music and it seemed that everything was working against me. I was very frustrated at the period and it was a very difficult time for me. I was in school and I had it on mind to face my studies squarely and hopefully, get a job later in life. When I was about to give up, I told myself to give music one more chance and God performed a miracle. It is God’s grace that helped me forge ahead

he said.

Reekado explained that his meeting Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy was a miracle because he was singled out from the pool of about 5,000 people.

Don Jazzy sent out a message on the Internet that people should send a demo of their songs to him. Luckily for me, my brother sent mine to him. Ironically, my brother did not tell me because at the time, we were not on talking terms but he still did that for me regardless. To cut the long story short my song was picked out of 5,000 entries

the singer said.

Reekado who has since then bought a house of his own and built one for his parents said one of his biggest dreams in life had been to own a house with clean toilets because he lived in a house where they used pit latrines.

He also added that he doesn’t see himself as the most talented person but it was God’s grace that kept him going and made him who he is today.

I believe it is this same grace of God that [will] take me to where I want to be.

Reekado, real name Solomon Leyi, has been nominated in the next rated category of this years Headies alongside Korede Bello, Cynthia Morgan, Kiss Daniel and Lil Kesh.
