Fury recently revealed that he is officially hanging up his gloves, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, his boxing career was a blast throughout, and he loved every single minute of it, but it is time to do something new with his life.
His words, “I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this – Dick Turpin wore a mask!”
Sky News sports correspondent, Rob Harris reacted, “Fury has announced his retirement in the past, in 2022, he was lured out of retirement that time, so is this really the end for Tyson Fury at 36? If it is, he has had one of the great British heavyweight boxing careers, but with that element of caution, he does often make these announcements then decide he can’t resist the lure of the ring. Fights like the one vs Usyk are very lucrative… so maybe the finances make it too irresistible.”
WOW.
Tyson Luke Fury (born 12 August 1988) is a British professional boxer. He has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title since 2020. Previously, he held the unified heavyweight titles from 2015 to 2016, and the Ring magazine title twice between 2015 and 2022. He also held the International Boxing Organization (IBO) title during his first reign as champion.
Tyson Luke Fury was born in the Wythenshawe area of Manchester on 12 August 1988, the son of Irish Traveller parents Amber and John Fury. He was born three months premature and weighed just 1 pound (450 g).
His father named him after American boxer Mike Tyson, who was the heavyweight world champion at the time, and later explained, “The doctors told me there was not much chance of him living. I had lost two daughters in the same way who had been born prematurely.” He decided on the name “Tyson” as Fury was “a fighter” and survived the premature birth.
On 29 September 2023, it was announced Fury had signed a contract to face the unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after his bout with Francis Ngannou in October. The fight is tentatively scheduled for 23 December but could occur later on a date in January 2024, depending on if Fury sustains an injury in the Ngannou fight.
