Popular boxer, Oleksandr Usyk has been issued a brief suspension following his intense victory over Tyson Fury.

This is coming after their undisputed bout which saw Usyk nearly floor Fury in the ninth round, with only the ropes keeping the Brit upright.

After the fight, Usyk was taken to hospital for a check-up and was given the all-clear, even though Fury claimed he had fractured his opponent’s jaw.

The British Boxing Board of Control has now suspended Usyk until June 2 due to his injuries sustained from Fury.

Usyk had this to say after his victory, “I don’t want to think about boxing now. My camp started in September 2023 and I worked for nine months.

I missed Happy New Year, I missed my son’s birthday, I missed my other son’s birthday, I missed my daughter’s birthday and then the birth of my daughter. I also missed family holidays. I was only focused on this fight. Now I’m happy and I want to go back home.”

WOW.

Tyson Luke Fury (born 12 August 1988) is a British professional boxer. He has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title since 2020. Previously, he held the unified heavyweight titles from 2015 to 2016, and the Ring magazine title twice between 2015 and 2022. He also held the International Boxing Organization (IBO) title during his first reign as champion.

Tyson Luke Fury was born in the Wythenshawe area of Manchester on 12 August 1988, the son of Irish Traveller parents Amber and John Fury. He was born three months premature and weighed just 1 pound (450 g).

His father named him after American boxer Mike Tyson, who was the heavyweight world champion at the time, and later explained, “The doctors told me there was not much chance of him living. I had lost two daughters in the same way who had been born prematurely.” He decided on the name “Tyson” as Fury was “a fighter” and survived the premature birth.

On 29 September 2023, it was announced Fury had signed a contract to face the unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after his bout with Francis Ngannou in October. The fight is tentatively scheduled for 23 December but could occur later on a date in January 2024, depending on if Fury sustains an injury in the Ngannou fight.
