Suicide Bombers Tried To Take My Life In 2021 – Pope Francis

I escaped a double suicide bombing during a visit to Iraq three years ago, Pope Francis has said.

He recently revealed that the attempts on his life were foiled by British intelligence and Iraqi police, and the world has been reacting.

According to him, after landing in Baghdad in March 2021, he was told an event at which he was set to appear was being targeted by two suicide bombers, but both attackers were subsequently intercepted and killed eventually.

Pope added that the suicide bombers were a woman who was strapped with explosives and a young man.

His words, “A woman packed with explosives, a young suicide bomber, was heading towards Mosul to blow herself up during the papal visit.

And a van had also set off at great speed with the same intention.

I asked a security official the following day what had happened to the would-be attackers. The [official] replied laconically: ‘They are no more’. The Iraqi police had intercepted them and blown them up.”
